Vietnam presents 5,000 tons of rice to Cuban people

The General Department of State Reserves on June 21st worked with the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam to organize a ceremony to symbolically hand over 5,000 tons of rice as a present from the Vietnamese Party and State to the Cuban people.

Addressing the ceremony, Do Viet Duc, Head of the General Department of State Reserves, said that during Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to Cuba from March 28th-30th, to support the Cuban people overcoming difficulties on food, the Vietnamese Party and State decided to earmark 5,000 tons of rice from the State reserves to present to the Cuban people.

So far the General Department of State Reserves in the northeastern region has worked with relevant agencies to fulfill all legal procedures to transport 5,000 tons of rice to Cuba.

Accordingly, the rice will be packaged in 200 containers and transported in 4 trips. The last trip is expected to be transported to Mariel Port in August.

During the ceremony, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Lianys Torres Rivera confirmed the special relationship between the two Parties, Governments and peoples, which was promoted by President Ho Chi Minh and leader Fidel Castro, as well as generations of the two countries’ leaders and people.

She expressed the respect for the Vietnamese Party, State and people for the present, stressing that the important presents not only helped the Cuban people overcome difficulties, but also reinforced the friendship between the two countries and the close affection between the two peoples./.
