Vietnam requests RoK not to make statement hurting Vietnamese sentiment

Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang made the statement on June 12th in response to reporters’ queries on Vietnam’s viewpoint on a speech of RoK President Moon Jae-in on June 6th honouring Korean “contributors” joining battlefields in foreign countries, including Vietnam.

“Regarding this issue, on June 9th, 2017, a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs seriously talked with a representative of the Republic of Korean Embassy in Vietnam,” Hang said.

“Vietnam wants to develop friendly relations with all nations, including the Republic of Korea. Leaders of the two countries reached common perceptions in putting the past aside and looking towards the future,” she said.

“We requested the Government of the Republic of Korea not to take any action and make any statement that hurt the Vietnamese people’s sentiment and have negative impacts on the friendship and cooperation between the two countries,” the spokeswoman stressed./.
