Vietnam - Russia comprehensive strategic partnership undergoes dynamic development

During his official visit to the Russian Federation from November 23rd-25th, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh had working meetings with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich, First Vice President of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Ivan Melnikov, and First Vice President of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly Nikolai Fedorov,

Meeting with Mr. Dvorkovich, the two sides expressed their pleasure about the dynamic development of the Vietnam – Russia comprehensive strategic partnership over the past time, agreeing that the maintaining of trusted political relations through regular dialogues and exchanges of high ranking delegations were important foundations for increased bilateral cooperation in diverse areas, especially in economic and trade cooperation.

The two sides reached a consensus to work closely with each other to effectively carry out the Vietnam - Eurasian Economic Union free trade agreement, aiming to increase bilateral trade turnover to USD10 billion by 2020, and promoting cooperation projects listed in priority investment projects.

The two Deputy Prime Ministers affirmed that the Governments would make favourable conditions for Vietnamese and Russian businesses to invest in such areas as energy, oil and gas, railway, machine manufacturing, light industry and agriculture.

The two sides also agreed to take advantage of the two countries’ potentials, and promote effective increased cooperation in national defence, security, science and technology, education and training, culture and tourism, labour as well as the cooperation among localities.

During the meeting with Mr. Melnikov, the two sides showed their satisfaction about the active and effective cooperation and strict coordination on the international arena between the two National Assemblies, especially at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), expressed their hope that the legislative agencies of the two countries would continue to increase coordination and raise the role of inspection ensuring the implementation of international treaties of which both are members, including the Vietnam - Eurasian Economic Union free trade agreement and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Mr. Melnikov appreciated the close relationship between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, showing his belief that the two Parties would continue to cooperate more strictly, contributing to promoting bilateral cooperation.

Leaders from the Russian Government and National Assembly agreed to continue to make favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community legally studying, working and residing in the Russian Federation.

On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh visited the Vietnamese Embassy in the Russian Federation, urging the staff to continue to effectively carry out foreign policies of the Vietnamese Party and State, making important contributions to reinforce and develop the cooperation and strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation./.
