Vietnam - Russia friendship year launched

During his official visit to Russia, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Russian counterpart Dmitri A. Medvedev attended the opening ceremony of the Vietnam Year in Russia and Russia Year in Vietnam, held in Moscow on May 22nd.

Addressing the ceremony, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that the close relationship between Vietnam and Russia had undergone ups and downs in history, from the difficult years in struggles for national protection to the national development. “The Vietnam Year in Russia and Russia Year in Vietnam aim to mark the 25th anniversary of the treaty on basic principles for bilateral relations (1994-2019), and 70th anniversary of the diplomatic ties (1950-2020), and to further increase the friendship, brotherhood and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries,” he added.

According to the Vietnamese PM, the event, of significance in the Vietnam - Russia relationship, will be held with hundreds of activities relating to exchanges, ceremonies, and trade and investment promotion held across Vietnam and Russia. Apart from unique art performances, the two peoples will have more new experience in Vietnamese and Russian countries, cultures and peoples, bringing them multi-dimensional visions on current life as well as the history of the bilateral relationship.

Confirming that many Vietnamese people maintain beautiful memories about Russia, PM Phuc said he believed that more and more people will choose Vietnam and Russia as destinations for work, tourism and study, while more and more Vietnamese and Russian businesses seek cooperation, contributing to deepen the Vietnam - Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.

Saying that the Vietnam Year in Russia and Russia Year in Vietnam is a wonderful initiative, Russian PM asserted that the event shows the special and multilateral characteristics of Russia - Vietnam cooperation, as well as the two sides’ determination in reinforcing the relationship.

He went on to say that he was pleased with Vietnam’s success in its socio-economic development which helps heighten its position and prestige in the region and in the international arena, adding that more and more Russians want to study Vietnam’s history, arts and music, at first in tourism to Vietnam. In 2018 alone, over 600,000 Russians were welcomed to Vietnam, while at present, Vietnamese youth like to learn the Russian language and receive certificates in Russia.

Earlier, the two PMs attended an exhibition “Russia emotion” and one introducing Vietnamese culture, country and people./.
