During a visit to the Russian Federation, on September 20th, the delegation from the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) led by Tran Thanh Man, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and VFF President, held talks with Vice Chairman of the Russian State Duma and First Vice Chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) Central Committee Ivan Melnikov.

During the talks, the two sides discussed diverse issues in bilateral ties, expressing their pleasure with the continuously reinforced and increased development in the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership, reflected through high political trust, increasing two-way trade and effective cooperation in defence, security, science, technology, education, training, culture, tourism, people-to-people exchange, and among localities.

The two countries’ relationship will be increased in 2019 when “Vietnam Year in Russian Federation” and “Russian Federation Year in Vietnam” are held, together with the official visit to the Russian Federation in early September by the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) General Secretary.

Mr. Melnikov stressed that Russia’s relationship with Vietnam is one of the main pillars in its foreign policy in the Asia-Pacific and Southeast Asia regions, and that Russia and Vietnam share similar stances in addressing regional and international issues, and Russia backs Vietnam’s efforts to increase its position in the international arena.

According to Mr. Melnikov, the relationship among political parties between the two countries is developing actively, especially between the CPRF and CPV.

He also suggested that the two sides should pay more attention to educating the young generations about their traditional friendship, and intensify their parliaments’ and social organisations’ supervision over the implementation of signed cooperative agreements.

For his part, Mr. Man stressed that Vietnam always respects the good  traditional relationship with Russia, and its precious assistance for Vietnamese people during their national construction and protection.

He also appreciated the effective cooperation between the two parliaments. “The Vietnamese National Assembly supports and participates in inter-parliamentary cooperative activities chaired by Russia, such as the Eurasian Women's Forum,” he said, adding that he hoped the legislative bodies will continue coordinating closely within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

He expressed his thanks to Russia for making favourable conditions for overseas Vietnamese, and said he hopes Melnikov and Russian authorized offices will continue helping Vietnamese people consolidate their legal status and run businesses in Russia.

Acknowledging Man’s proposal, Melnikov stated that in the time ahead, both sides can seek measures to address outstanding obstacles in bilateral ties, including issues related to the legal status of the Vietnamese community in Russia./.
