Vietnam’s priorities in joining APEC

The 12th National Party Congress resolution identifies that the country will join deep international integration and heighten multilateral external activities, including APEC and other cooperation mechanism in Asia - Pacific.

Accordingly, Vietnam’s priorities in joining cooperation in APEC focus on different areas.

Vietnam joins cooperation in APEC in a proactive spirit, contributing to joint concerns, actively proposing initiatives and new ideas for APEC cooperation, and increasing the role of the forum.

In addition, Vietnam actively promotes quality, sustainable and inclusive growth, in connection with the United Nations agenda on sustainable development by 2030, ensuring the balance in interests among APEC member economies.

Vietnam gives priority in fully realizing commitments, increasing links in APEC, promoting the completion of the Bogor Goals, and looking towards the establishment of the Free Trade Area of the Asia Pacific (FTAAP).

Furthermore, Vietnam will join in reinforcing the multilateral trade system in a transparent and unbiased way.

Increasing economic and technological cooperation, especially in developing human resources; narrowing the development gap; eliminating poverty; coping with natural disasters and epidemics; ensuring food, water and energy security; expanding supportive industry and promoting tourism development are also among Vietnam’s priorities in APEC cooperation.

Finally, Vietnam cares about increasing the efficiency of ministries’ and agencies’ participation in APEC cooperation; promoting the participation of localities, businesses, research institutes, mass media and people in APEC activities; mastering the opportunities that APEC brings; and promoting the image of and heightening the role of the country.

Vietnam’s successful hosting of APEC Year 2017 will be an opportunity to carry out cooperative orientations which show the country’s vision for the future of APEC, contributing to establishing the Asia - Pacific partnership relationship in sustainable and inclusive growth in the 21st century./.
