Vietnam, South Sudan set up diplomatic relationship

Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of Vietnamese Mission to the United Nations (UN), on behalf of the Vietnamese Government; and Ambassador Akuei Bona Malwal, Head of the South Sudan Mission to the UN, on behalf of the South Sudan Government, on February 21st signed a joint statement establishing the diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to exchange diplomatic representatives at the ambassador level and apply the 1961 Vienna Convention on diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

With the establishment of the diplomatic relationship with South Sudan, Vietnam has set up diplomatic relations with 54 of 55 African nations.

After the signing ceremony, Ambassadors Dang Dinh Quy and Akuei Bona Malwal discussed measures to promote bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Accordingly, in bilateral cooperation, the two sides agreed to increase cooperation in agriculture, banking, gas and oil, while in multilateral cooperation, South Sudan committed to support Vietnam’s candidacy as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 tenure./.
