Southern hub makes effort to fulfill socio-economic development targets

Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, Politburo member and Secretary of the municipal Party Committee, said at the 32nd session of the 10th-tenure Municipal Party Executive Committee on October 2nd.

At the meeting, Tran Vinh Tuyen, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, said that the economy of Ho Chi Minh city continued to develop in the first nine months of 2019 with gross regional domestic product (GRDP) estimated at over VND1 trillion (USD43.1 million), up 7.81 percent.

In the first nine months, State budget collection surpassed VND287 trillion, up 7.23 percent, fulfilling 71.9 percent of the yearly plan. Total retail sales of goods and services increased by 11.9 percent over the same period last year. Export turnover exceeded USD31 billion, a yearly rise of 10.5 percent.

During this period, the city welcomed over 6.2 million foreign tourists, up 14.3 percent year-on-year. It attracted USD5.43 billion of foreign investment, a year-on-year increase of 3.48 percent.

The positive results were gained thanks to local efforts in removing difficulties for investors and speeding up the implementation of projects.

According to the Vice Chairman, the city proactively coordinated with ministries to settle difficulties in the implementation of key projects.

In addition, local administrations also collect opinions of business in their areas to improve the investment environment, business production, and competitiveness, as well as address public matters.

The city is also focusing on administrative reform and striving to build itself into a smart urban area.

Moreover, Ho Chi Minh ity has organized 10 international workshops and conferences on various fields such as artificial intelligence, schemes to develop trees, parks, public lighting, human resources training, and smart tourism./.
