Specifically, it builds 1,000 NB-IoT stations and offers 5G network in Ward 12, District 10; making HCMC the first locality offering end-to-end 5G network and IoT on a large scale.

Major-General Hoang Son, Viettel Vice General Director, said: “Playing a pioneering role in the digital transformation strategy in Vietnam, Viettel expressed determination and commitment to being ready with the local authorities, businesses and people to develop the technology platforms for smart city.”

Together with Cloud, the widespread fiber optic cable system and 3G and 4G infrastructure previously invested, the operation of NB-IoT and 5G is among the core platforms for the building of a digital society and digital economy, in HCMC in particular and the country in general.

As planned, in September, Viettel will offer NB-IoT across the capital Hanoi and have roadmap to develop it in Da Nang and expand to the whole nation in the next 2 years.

According to an announcement of the World Mobile Association, Viettel is the only representative of Vietnam named among the first 50 network carriers successfully developing 5G technology. Currently, only 10 countries have commercialized 5G, including the Republic of Korea, Japan, China, the US, Australia, the UK, Spain, Sweden, Norway and Russia.

With the plan of 5G commercialization in 2020, Viettel will make Vietnam one of the leading countries in 5G development./.
