According to the draft plan, initially the movement will focus on mobilizing Party members, officials, civil servants and students to walk daily from 300m to 1km during their daily life and work, to contribute to reducing the large numbers of motorcycles and automobiles involved in traffic.

From now to 2020, the program will be divided into three phases and in April, the city will organize the first phase to mobilize people to walk in central districts such as District 1 and District 3.

In later phases, the scope of implementation will extend to surrounding districts and across the city.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuong, Deputy Head of the the city Traffic Safety Committee, said the launch of a walking movement will give people the habit of walking, and using public transport to go to work to help reduce traffic jams.

However, to carry out the movement effectively, the people must have a sense of volunteering to walk regularly, and especially, officials, civil servants and Party members must be an example to implement the movement./.
