Ho Chi Minh city delegation visits people and soldiers on Tho Chu island

A delegation led by Mr. Tran Luu Quang, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh city Party Committee, recently paid a visit to Tho Chu island to present gifts to soldiers of 610 radar station and border post, lighthouse station and local people.


Tho Chu Island commune is about 220 km from Kien Giang province’s Rach Gia city. This is the territorial waters contiguous to international maritime routes and is a frontal island of the Southwest region of the country.

Tho Chu archipelago has an area of about 16.5 square kilometers, including 8 large and small islands with nearly 600 households earning mainly from fishing, cultivation and animal husbandry. Every week, there is only one ship, which carries necessities from the mainland to the island to serve the daily life of people on the island.

On Tho Chu island, Mr Quang offered flowers and incense to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh, heroic martyrs and more than 500 innocent people killed by Pol Pot in May 1975 at Tho Chau Temple.
