Ho Chi Minh city gives over VND1.5 billion to islands’ people

On Tho Chu Island, the delegation also laid a wreath and commemorated President Ho Chi Minh and heroic fallen soldiers, as well as over 500 innocent killed by Pol Pot in May 1975.

Tho Chu Island commune is 220 kilometers from Kien Giang’s Rach Gia city, and home to over 500 families with over 2,000 islanders who live mainly on fishing.

Earlier, on August 24th-25^th, the delegation visited and encouraged cadres and soldiers on duty on Hon Khoai Island in Tan An commune, Ngoc Hien district, Ca Mau province; frame-house DK1/10 and vessel 632.

During the visits, Ms Dung recognized and appreciated the spirit of the cadres and soldiers in accepting work in difficult and dangerous places to complete the tasks assigned by the Party, army and people. “The Ho Chi Minh city Party Committee, authority and people are always spiritual support for those who spend day and night protecting national sovereignty,” she said, adding that the city would do its utmost to give both material and spiritual assistance to the cadres and soldiers.

She also presented over VND1.5 billion earmarked from the fund for sea and islands to each of the island for building projects./.
