Ho Chi Minh city increases cooperation with Japanese locality

Ho Chi Minh city wants to boost cooperation in investment, tourism, robot development and biological technology with Japan’s Yamanashi prefecture.

So said Nguyen Thien Nhan, Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh city Party Committee, during his recent reception for Hitoshi Goto, the Governor of Yamanashi prefecture.

Appreciating the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Japan, including the cooperation in economics and trade, Mr. Nhan highlighted that there were currently 1,100 Japanese projects worth USD4 billion in Ho Chi Minh city. “In 2017, the two-way trade turnover reached over USD5 billion,” he said, adding that many Japanese businesses had invested in the city hi-tech zone and developed the retail system in the city.

Governor Hitoshi Goto also spoke highly of the cooperation between Japan and Vietnam, expressing his belief that it would develop further, especially as the two countries celebrated the 45th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship.

According to Governor Hitoshi Goto, during his delegation’s visit to Ho Chi Minh city, they worked with tourism organizations and universities to boost cooperation in tourism and in robot research and production.

He added that he hoped Ho Chi Minh city’s leaders would facilitate cooperation between the two localities, especially in agriculture and labour./.
