Ho Chi Minh city, JICA boost up cooperation

During his reception for new Chief representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Mr. Akira Shimizu, on June 3rd, Nguyen Thanh Phong, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee, suggested JICA continue to support the city’s completion of infrastructure projects.

Regarding COVID-19 prevention, Mr. Phong said that thanks to effective preventive measures, the pandemic had been controlled in the city, making it return to a new normal situation. 

“The city is both protecting COVID-19 prevention achievements and accelerating programs on economic recovery and stabilization of people’s lives,” he said, adding that disbursing investment is considered one of policies to support the city’s economic development. 

Recognizing the efforts of JICA and investors in promoting projects such as metro line No.1; the project improving the water environment in the city’s Tau Hu, Ben Nghe - Doi - Te canals, phase 2; the project of renovating and restoring the old drainage pipe with no-digging technology, Mr. Phong suggested that JICA continue to pay attention to and support the city in completing the projects. “The city pledged to create conditions for Mr. Akira Shimizu to complete the task during his working term,” he went on to say.

For his part, Mr. Akira Shimizu expressed his belief that the city's post-COVID-19 policy will be effectively implemented to support economic recovery activities. 

He committed to be a bridge for the smooth exchange of information in the projects, as well as to actively cooperate to bring the implementation to the highest results./.
