Ho Chi Minh city wants to increase urban innovation cooperation with Japanese prefecture

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong has expressed his hope to increase economic and culture cooperation with Japan’s Chiba prefecture, while exchanging experience in urban planning and management, development of urban innovation, and labour cooperation.

He made the statement while receiving Governor of Chiba prefecture Kensaku Morita on November 20th, who is on a visit to the city.

According to Mr. Phong, the relationship between Ho Chi Minh city and Japanese localities has developed well along with the good relationship between Vietnam and Japan. “The city has welcomed many Japanese investors and businesses, including those from Chiba prefecture, who want to cooperate with and expand investment in the city,” he said. “Chiba prefecture now has 48 investment projects coming from individuals and businesses, including large retail businesses such as Ion and Ministop.”

In economic relations, Japanese investors are carrying out some 1,200 projects worth over USD4 billion in Ho Chi Minh city, ranking 5th of 100 countries and territories. Meanwhile, the Japanese Businesses’ Association in the city has nearly 1,000 members.

Informing that Ho Chi Minh city has set up nursing cooperation with Yokohama prefecture, Mr. Phong said that some other Japanese localities also want to apply the model of cooperation with the Vietnamese city. He urged the Ho Chi Minh city and Japanese authorities to discuss suitable cooperation mechanisms for the future, adding that he hoped that Chiba prefecture will give support to the Vietnamese community.

Chiba prefecture Governor Kensaku Morita said his delegation’s visit aims to increase cooperation with Ho Chi Minh city in such areas as investment, trade, agriculture, education, nursing and tourism.

Expressing his hope that the Vietnamese city will continue to support Chiba prefecture’s investors, he confirmed his willingness to assist the Vietnamese community./.
