Over 30,000 young people join voluntary campaign

Over 30,000 pupils and students in Ho Chi Minh city are joining a voluntary campaign lasting from January 14th - February 11th, aiming to provide a better lunar New Year festival (Tet) to people in need.

Accordingly, voluntary workers will care for Vietnamese heroic mothers, armed forces, beneficiaries’ families relating to the Mau Than General Offensive and Uprising in Spring 1968, orphans and disabled children, as well as those living in extremely disadvantaged circumstances, those in hospitals and charity houses, elderly people in nursing houses, poor patients, border guards, and disadvantaged pupils and students.

Activities of the 6-program campaign will focus in Ho Chi Minh city, border and island areas, hospitals, charity houses, social foundations, dormitories, students’ and workers’ hostels, stations and markets, as well as locations in Kien Giang province’s Tho Chu district.

Addressing the send-off ceremony held on January 14th, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thu confirmed that the program would help young people practice to be more confident in the integration period by caring for disadvantaged children, students, pupils and labourers.

After the ceremony, volunteers made 1,000 "chung" cakes, a type of cake typical of the lunar New Year festival, to be distributed to hospitals, charity houses and social foundations, as well as participating in blood donation./.
