Southern hub reduces traffic jams and flooding using special mechanisms

Ho Chi Minh city has started to apply special mechanisms to address traffic jams and environmental pollution, increase residents’ living standard, push up administrative reform, improve investment environment, and streamline personnel work.

According to Nguyen Thanh Phong, Chairman of the city People’s Committee, in 2018, the city targets to gain Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) growth of 8.3-8.5%, collect VND376.78 trillion to the budget, an increase of 8.3% compared to 2017.

“To obtain the budget turnover, the city must rely on production and real economic growth, realize policies adopted by the National Assembly, and address people’s and businesses’ obstacles,” said Mr. Phong. “In particular, its special mechanisms will be applied to reduce traffic jams and flooding, using an estimated capital of some VND68 trillion”.

In addition, until 2020, the city need VND85 trillion to tackle environmental pollution and flooding, and develop traffic infrastructure, Mr. Phong added.

Earlier, in November 2017, during the 4th session of the 14th National Assembly (NA), the NA adopted a resolution on providing Ho Chi Minh city special mechanisms for creating breakthrough development, including mechanisms in land management, finance - budget, the authority and income of cadres and officers./.
