Traffic safety year launched

The National Traffic Safety Committee on January 3rd, in collaboration with the Hanoi People’s Committee, launched a send-off ceremony on traffic safety in 2018 and a campaign to ensure traffic safety during the upcoming lunar New Year festival.

According to the Hanoi People’s Committee, this year, Hanoi will strive to reduce by 5-10% the number of traffic accidents, fatalities and injuries; reduce serious traffic accidents by at least 5%; and continue to ease traffic jams. It will also pay attention to enhance people’s awareness on traffic safety, and upgrade traffic light systems across 31 locations.

Addressing the ceremony, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh said that this year’s traffic safety campaign will target the safety of children, with a goal to reduce the number of child fatalities by 10%; and ease traffic congestion in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city and main routes.

He stressed the need to complete legal systems on traffic safety and road traffic, raise people’s morality in joining the traffic, and create a safe traffic environment for children.

Increasing the quality of traffic police, continuing to invest in the building and upgrading of traffic infrastructure projects, reducing people’s emigration to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city, increasing the quality of transport services, especially waterways and railways services, and lowering aviation prices were also among the requests by the Standing Deputy Prime Minister./.
