(CPV) - In recent years, consumers at home and abroad are increasingly familiar with and proud of products exploited and produced from territorial waters and islands of the nation such as Phu Quoc fish sauce, Ly Son garlic, and Nha Trang bird’s nest. These products have contributed to promoting and creating value for the brand of Vietnam’s sea and islands.

Ly Son island in Quang Ngai province has long been known as the "Kingdom of garlic". Ly Son garlic is a brilliant brand among agricultural products of the whole country.

This brand is not only confirmed in Vietnam, but is spreading to foreign markets. Garlic planting brings average income for Ly Son Island district of VND1.5 - 2 billion/ha/year. April and May is the garlic harvest season in Ly Son. This is also the time that a large number of tourists visit the island because many of them want to get experience with garlic harvest with farmers on the island.

Phu Quoc (Kien Giang province) has long been dubbed as a pearl island, the largest island of Vietnam, with a total of 22 islands located in the Gulf of Thailand. In 2015, the island welcomed nearly 900,000 visitors.

This is one of the localities well implementing brand building for products associated with tourism. Currently, Phu Quoc has nearly 500 hectares of pepper, concentrated mostly in two communes of Cua Duong and Cua Van with the average output of 2-3 tons/ha.

Mr. Huynh Quang Hung, Deputy Head of Phu Quoc district People's Committee, said the district has developed a pepper-growing region reaching GlobalGAP standards. It is in line with the planning of building the pearl island to become a national and international centre of eco-tourism, resort and high-end entertainment.

The region will be a destination to visit and attract domestic and international tourists. Thereby, it will promote advantages of the brand "Phu Quoc pepper" granted certification by National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam (NOIP) in 2011. Together with pepper, Phu Quoc fish sauce and pearl are also popular products and attract tourists, which are being invested to develop.

In addition, other territorial waters and islands such as Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa province) and Cat Ba (Hai Phong city) have also developed their own famous products such as Nha Trang bird’s nest, Cat Hai fish sauce and Cat Ba honey.

These brands have contributed to socio-economic development of the localities and confirmed the strength of the country's marine resources./.
