European Literature Days scheduled in May

The European Literature Days will come to Hanoi for the sixth time and Ho Chi Minh city for the first time in May, featuring new books from eight European countries and activities for book lovers, Goethe-Institut Vietnam said in a statement.


Opened on May 5th at the Goethe-Institut Hanoi, the event will present contributions from Denmark, Germany, France, Sweden, Belgium, Italy, Spain and the UK, as well as hold activities such as book presentations, readings, workshops, talks, exhibitions and film screening.

The book presentation program will focus on German contributions, started with “Sung’s store”, a novel about a piece of Vietnam in Germany, presented by author Karin Kalisa with Vietnamese translation. It is followed by a presentation of the book “The Taste of Apple Seeds” by Katharina Hagena. 

5th European lieterature days 

The next day will see the presentations of three popular children’s novels about the adventures of Rico and Oskar by Andreas Steinhofel, whose Vietnamese version is now available, before the screening of the film “Rico, Oskar and the Deeper Shadows.” 

The organizers will also introduce one of the most important novel fragments of German literature: “The Castle” by Franz Kafka. 

The event in Hanoi will be held at the Goethe-Institut Hanoi at 56-58 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street,

Ba Dinh District, L’Espace at 24 Trang Tien Street, and Casa Italia at 18 Le Phung Hieu Street, Hoan Kiem District. It lasts until May 8th

In HCM City, it will take place on May 8th only at IDECAF, 28 Le Thanh Ton Street, District 1, the Library of General Sciences, 69 Ly Tu Trong Street, District 1, and on the book street Nguyen Van Binh in the downtown area. 

Since 2011, the annual European Literature Days program has been organized in Hanoi by the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC).
