The Embassies of South Africa, Angola and Mozambique to Vietnam celebrate the 27th anniversary of the Southern African Development Community Day (August 17th 1992 – August 17th 2019) in Hanoi on August 16th 2019.

Southern African Development Community (SADC) is an inter-governmental organization with the goal of promoting sustainable and equitable economic growth and socio-economic development, deeper co-operation and integration, good governance and durable peace and security among sixteen Southern African Member States: Angola, Bostwana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychells, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

SADC Day is celebrated every year on August 17th, marking the date in 1992 when the Southern African Development Community was established in Windhoek, Namibia.

It is clear that there is significant potential for closer ties between Vietnam and the SADC Region to increase trade, investment, tourism and technical cooperation.

This year the SADC Group in Vietnam celebrates this event by inter alia presenting a friendship football match at 14h30 on Saturday, August 17th 2019, at the Xuan La Stadium. A SADC Team consisting of nationals of SADC Member States present in Vietnam will play against the team of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The objective of the SADC Day celebration in Hanoi is to promote the SADC region in Vietnam with a particular emphasis on potential opportunities for mutually beneficial exchange and cooperation, inter alia by showcasing some of its products, culture and tourist attractions to the Vietnamese public.

During this summit President Hage Geingob of Namibia will hand over the rotating SADC chairpersonship to his Tanzania counterpart, Mr. John Magufuli.

The SADC region offers young and dynamic, populations, abundant resources and growing markets for the investors; as well as boundless beauty and diversity for the traveller.

SADC stands central to the next great economic success story waiting to unfold on the African Continent./.
