Vietnamese Ambassador to Spain Ngo Tien Dung on January 30th chaired the first regular meeting of the ASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM) in 2019 after Vietnam has been assuming the ACM Chair since January 1st.

Reviewing the ACM’s performance in 2018 and laying out orientations for 2019 were the focus of the meeting’s agenda.

Undertaking the ACM Chair in the first six months of this year, the Vietnamese Embassy had already outlined the ACM’s detailed working plan, with 14 main activities across four pillars of political-security cooperation, economic cooperation, socio-cultural cooperation, and popularising the images of the ASEAN Community and member states in the host nation.

The plan was highly evaluated and received approval from other ACM member states, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand.

Earlier, the Vietnamese diplomat successfully chaired a wide range of ASEAN activities when he served as the ACM Vice Chairman.

Dung’s efforts and contributions to ACM activities have helped elevate the position of ASEAN and its members to a new height in Spain.

The Vietnamese Embassy, on behalf of the ASEAN countries, will discuss the future of Asia-Europe relations and ASEM progress with several popular universities, and the EU Commission representative in Spain at a seminar slated for February 20th.

The ACM Chair will be transferred to the Indonesian Embassy when Vietnam fulfills its mission in June./.
