(CPV) - On June 18th, 2020 at Umah Indo, the Indonesian Embassy in Hanoi held a musical class - how to play Angklung - a famous musical instrument and has been played by the Sundanese (people of West Java and Banten) for centuries.

The Angklung is made of a varying number of bamboo tubes attached to a bamboo frame, bringing a joyful, energetic sound to the audiences.

This musical instrument is closely knitted to the cultural identity of Sundanese people communities in the provinces. It is believed that Angklung promotes the values of teamwork and social harmony because playing these instruments as an orchestra requires cooperation and coordination. In 2010, Angklung was officially recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

Many Vietnamese young people came to the event, including students from Vietnam Academy of Music. They not only learned how to play the Angklung but also synchronously played Vietnamese two-chord fiddle along with the Angklung and produced a beautiful and harmonious orchestra of music.

One of the students from the Vietnam Academy of Music shared that the materials to make Angklung are similar to T-rưng instrument of Viet Nam but the way to play them is different. "Angklung is more simple because you just use bare hands to play, but the sound produced by this seemingly simple instrument is great. It’s very interesting", she said.

Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam, H.E. Mr. Ibnu Hadi said: “Promoting Indonesian culture is one of the missions of the Indonesian Embassy in Vietnam in general and my mission in particular. I am very pleased to see that many young people of Vietnam are passionate about learning about the cultures of countries, including Indonesia ”./.
