Prof. Ngo Bao Chau appointed member of French Academy of Sciences

The French Academy of Sciences recently held a ceremony to welcome 13 new foreign members that it additionally appointed in late 2015, including Prof. Ngo Bao Chau.

In order to be an academician of the French Academy of Sciences, a foreign scientist must have great achievements and contributions to the science of the world. Along with that, they must also receive nomination from the official members of the academy and undergo a rigorous selection process by the council.

Therefore, becoming an academician of the French Academy of Sciences has great meaning for Prof. Ngo Bao Chau, expressing the recognition of a world leading scientific organization for the research works of a Vietnamese mathematician.

The French Academy of Sciences is one of the first academies in the world. It was founded in 1666 by French Emperor Louis XIV, to encourage and promote the development of French science.

Since its establishment, the French Academy of Sciences has always been a leading prestigious scientific organization in the world. Prof. Ngo Bao Chau is the second Vietnamese to become an official member of the academy.

Earlier, in 1995, late Prof. Bui Huy Duong was the first Vietnamese academician to become a member of the French Academy of Sciences, thanks to his outstanding achievements in solid mechanics.

In 2012, Prof. Ngo Bao Chau was also elected to the American Academy of Sciences. Thus, at present, Prof. Ngo Bao Chau is an academician of two academies./.
