When the earthquakes happened, most of the students were in the dormitory and all were able to escape the building right before it collapsed.
Answering an interview of the Vietnam News Agency correspondent, Doan Phi Long - a Vietnamese students, said that all international students, including Vietnamese students, escaped right before the dormitory collapsed.
After getting out, the students went to a vacant area with no trees and no electricity poles. After the earthquakes with the tsunami, the area lost power and phone signal so they could not contact anyone.
Welcoming the students at Soekarno Hatta Airport, Mr. Tran Minh Cu, Counselor of the Vietnamese Embassy to Indonesia, said that after receiving the information of the large earthquake seriously affecting the province of Sulawesi, where there were 10 Vietnamese students, the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia timely coordinated with the Indonesian authorities, including the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security, especially the Indonesian military, to request coordination and help to bring the students out of the danger zone, and they arrived in Jakarta safely
The students have been taken to rest in the area near the embassy to stabilize their spirits and health.
In the coming days, the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia will continue to support the students, in accordance with their health conditions and personal plans.
