The Congress of the General Association of Overseas Vietnamese in Belgium was organized at the headquarters of the Vietnamese Embassy in Brussels on June 4th.

The Congress heard reports about the past tenure and elected the new Management Board of the General Association, including nine members. Mr. Huynh Cong My was re-elected as its Chairman and Mr. Pham Huy Hoang was re-elected as its Secretary General.

Over the past time, the General Association of Overseas Vietnamese in Belgium has been actively developing relationships with many domestic and foreign agencies and organizations, and maintaining good relations with local authorities.

It also pays special attention to the close ties with the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs and actively extends its relations with Vietnamese Associations in other European countries such as Germany, Czech Republic and the Netherlands, and actively contributes to the common document of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Europe.

The General Association of Overseas Vietnamese in Belgium also played an active role in building the close relationships among the Belgian Vietnamese community, organizing many cultural and sporting events to meet the need for exchanges among overseas Vietnamese in Belgium.

At the event, many frank and constructive ideas were raised by overseas Vietnamese people, such as the General Association of Overseas Vietnamese organizing more activities to expand the network of the General Association of Overseas Vietnamese in some localities of Belgium; tightening the solidarity within the Vietnamese community in Belgium; and acting as a bridge so overseas Vietnamese in Belgium can contribute more to the homeland.

Speaking at the Congress, Ambassador Vuong Thua Phong appreciated the helpful activities of the General Association and efforts of its leaders over the past tenure. He hoped the General Association would have measures to mobilize and attract larger numbers of overseas Vietnamese in the coming time.

Chairman Huynh Cong My expressed appreciation for the trust of members and the Management Board, and said he would set out concrete activities in the coming time with the aim of organizing more activities of practical significance for overseas Vietnamese in Belgium./.
