Accordingly, the contest aims to promote the teaching and learning of the mother tongue among overseas Vietnamese, preserving and promoting the language and the country’s culture abroad.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Huu Do said the contest seeks contributions from scientists, organisations, and individuals at home and abroad.

It will run from September 2020 to April 2021, with entries being in the form of written or online books, documents, and drafts.

The organizing board will present a first prize of VND 300 million (USD 12,900), two second prizes of VND 200 million (USD 8.500) each, and three third prizes of VND 100 million (USD 4.200) each to winners.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Ha Kim Ngoc also extended congratulations at the event via video and affirmed that Vietnamese language is one of the three sacred symbols of Vietnam abroad, along with the National Flag and National Anthem. He said that he would actively communicate and mobilize the Vietnamese community in the US to know about and join the contest.

Ms. Nguyen Viet Trieu, President of Vietnamese Women's Union in Poland, and Vice Chairwoman of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Poland, also expressed her joy when the meaningful contest was officially launched.

“Vietnamese is very important to the Vietnamese community because it is a bridge between family generations, helping to nurture Vietnamese identity and maintain a sense of origin among young people. The contest is also the long-standing aspiration of overseas Vietnamese to make them further love their homeland. In response to that spirit, Lac Long Quan Vietnamese School will represent overseas Vietnamese in Poland to participate in this contest,” shared Ms. Nguyen Viet Trieu.

Previously, the Association for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese also introduced a Vietnamese textbook entitled “Xin Chao Viet Nam” designed for overseas Vietnamese and foreigners who wish to learn the Vietnamese language.

The textbook comprises 20 lessons on different topics via Hanna’s stories regarding family, occupation, the weather, going to hospital, shopping, traveling, and other activities./.
