After the credentials presentation ceremony at the Presidential Palace, President Teshome received friendly Ambassador Nguyen Kim Doanh.

At the meeting, President Teshome deeply sympathized with the State, Government and people of Vietnam and Ambassador Nguyen Kim Doanh on President Tran Dai Quang's death. He again highly appreciated President Tran Dai Quang's visit to Ethiopia in August and considered it as a new page in the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Recognizing the achievements Vietnam has made over the past three decades, particularly in agricultural conversion and attracting foreign direct investment, the president said that Ethiopia could learn from Vietnam's experiences in economic development and national construction. He once again asked Vietnam to re-open the embassy in the capital Addis Ababa.

The Ethiopian President wished Ambassador Nguyen Kim Doanh to have a successful term, making positive contributions to strengthening and developing the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Doanh thanked President Teshome for his good words for Vietnam, and conveyed the thanks and gratitude of Acting President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh and other high-ranking leaders of Vietnam to him, and expecting the government and people of Ethiopia to continue to reap successes in developing a peaceful, prosperous Ethiopia. The Ambassador hoped that the two countries would regularly exchange high-ranking delegations to exchange experiences and create strong foundations for bilateral cooperation in many fields.

On the same day, Mr Doanh met with Mr. Tsegab Kebebew, Head of Department for Asia and Oceania under Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss measures to promote bilateral cooperation. He suggested that Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs promote and organize Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali’s visit to Vietnam in the earliest time as the previous expectation between the two countries.

In addition, he also suggested that Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs should promote its relevant ministries and sectors to continue considering and negotiating the investment encouragement and protection agreement, double taxation avoidance agreement and other cooperation agreements./.
