First sports festival of Berlin-Brandenburg Vietnamese community set for Mid-July

At the opening of the press conference, Mr. Do Van Phuc, President of VLC football club and Head of the Organizing Board, said that the first sports festival of the Vietnamese community in Berlin - Brandenburg would be held on July 15th with the participation of about 400 athletes from sports clubs in Berlin.

The clubs will organize to compete in their own categories. Some categories can hold competitions one week earlier, however, on the evening of July 15th, all athletes and guests will gather in a hall at Dong Xuan Trade Centre to present the Cup and top awards to athletes and teams who achieve outstanding results at the festival.

According to the organizing board, this is an opportunity for athletes from clubs to meet and exchange with each other. The organizing board hoped that the festival would be held every year to promote the sport movement among the Vietnamese community. This year, VLC football club holds the key role in organization, but in the coming years this role can be played by other clubs.

Counsellor of the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany Pham Van Bich appreciated the initiative of organizing the festival. He said that Ambassador Doan Xuan Hung could not attend due to his busy schedule, but the Ambassador was very interested in the event. He affirmed that the Embassy always supports and accompanies sports activities in order to strengthen community solidarity. The Embassy called upon associations, businesses and individuals to actively support the event.

At the event, representatives from many businesses expressed their appreciation for the organization of the event and announced financial support for the festival. On July 1st alone, the amount raised for organizing the event reached over EUR11,500.
