Friendship sports exchange between Vietnamese and Cambodian youth

An open friendship football tournament 2018 was recently organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia to mark the 40th anniversary of the overthrow of the Khmer Rouge regime (January 7th), supporting the idea of ​​Vietnamese youth in Cambodia and Cambodian youth.

The tournament drew the participation of four teams: a team including youth from Vietnamese Embassy and agencies beside the embassy; a team from the Cambodian People's Party (CPP); a team from Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and from Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Trac Toan from the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia thanked the leaders of CPP, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Ministry of Interior of Cambodia for supporting the tournament, and affirmed that the tournament is organized to further strengthen understanding and connection between the young generations of the two countries, as well as mark the historical victory on January 7th.  

Mr. Ke Bun Khieng, a high-ranking leader of Cambodia, affirmed that the tournament will create more favourable conditions to consolidate and further develop the friendship and cooperation between the two sides and celebrate the 40th anniversary of the overthrow of the Pol Pot genocide regime, commemorate the merits of the patriotic Cambodian soldiers and people, and Vietnamese volunteer soldiers.

After the opening ceremony, the four teams played their first matches. During the matches, the footballers played their best in the spirit of sports, solidarity and friendship for understanding, respect and to learn from each other./.
