Great requiem for Gac Ma soldiers held in Tokyo

A great requiem was organized at Nisshikutsu Pagoda in Tokyo by the Vietnam Buddhist Association in Japan to commemorate martyrs sacrificed at Gac Ma battle (March 14th, 1988) on March 4th.

At the event, the organizing board narrated the main developments about Gac Ma event and depicted portraits of the martyrs in the battle. Over the past 30 years, the heart-breaking event remains printed in the hearts of Vietnamese people.

According to Buddhist Thich Tam Tri, Head of the Vietnam Buddhist Association in Japan, with the moral principle of Vietnamese people, they feel unbounded gratitude to the soldiers who sacrificed in the battle. Their sacrifice is the great loss but is also the pride and promotes soldiers to be steadfast to protect land, the sea and islands of the nation.

At the event, the Buddhists, overseas Vietnamese, Japanese and international friends lit candles to pray for the salvation of the martyrs’ souls.

According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Phuc, Chairman of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Japan, the happiness we have today is created from the great sacrifice of the soldiers. The battle also reminded generations of Vietnamese people of incessantly making efforts to build and protect the nation.

In the framework of the requiem, the organizing board also displayed ancient documents, which affirm Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes, as well as China’s activities violating Vietnam’s sovereignty over the sea and islands in recent time./.
