Speaking at the event, Mr. Vo Thanh Chat, Head of the delegation and Deputy Head of the Overseas Vietnamese Committee of Ho Chi Minh city, affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh city in particular have always paid attention to and worked to ease the difficulties of Vietnamese origin and Cambodian poor people, especially the poor living on Tonlé Sap, Cambodia.

Mr. Vo Thanh Chat said that receiving the news that the people meet various difficulties when they had to move from floating houses on Tonlé Sap to the mainland to live under the policy of the province but without electricity, water and roads, the Overseas Vietnamese Committee of Ho Chi Minh city mobilized its residents, sponsors and extracted funds from the committee to contribute to easing the difficulties of the people there. He emphasized that although the gift is small, it is full of sentiment of the Party Committee and people of the city.

Ms. Truong Thi Lan, 63, a native of Vietnam, said that although life in the new place is still very difficult, people will try to overcome to create a new future; and added that the gifts will help to reduce the initial difficulties of the people there.

From the beginning of October until now, the administration of Kampong Chhnang province has implemented a plan to move floating villages on Tonlé Sap to resolve water pollution, protect aquatic resources and help change the local people’s unstable life. Accordingly, thousands of households with tens of thousands of people, including Vietnamese origin people living on floating villages, had to move to the mainland.

Kampong Chhnang province has around 2,400 Vietnamese households. Many of them have lived for generations on Tonlé Sap by fishing and aquaculture, but their lives are very poor./.
