Image of countries and people of ASEAN promoted in Mexico

The member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Mexico, including Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia, organized a workshop to introduce ASEAN to Mexican and international friends at the Matias Romero Institute, Mexico City, on February 23rd.

At the workshop, Ambassadors of ASEAN member countries in Mexico introduced an overview of ASEAN, which is established to boost economic growth, and support regional peace and cultural development among its members.

Speaking at the seminar, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Le Linh Lan emphasized the importance of ASEAN for Vietnam. Vietnam became the 7th member of the block in 1995.

ASEAN membership is a big step in the innovation policy of the country and is an important basis for promoting international relations. The trade turnover between Vietnam and ASEAN increased from USD15.069 billion in 2005 to USD21.180 billion in 2015.

She stressed that ASEAN is an important organization in the region, a platform for countries to strengthen cooperation to deal with security challenges and transnational issues, especially non-traditional security problems.

According to the Ambassador, ASEAN expresses its deep concern about the recent tensions in the East Sea and pledges to safeguard peace, security and freedom of navigation and aviation in the region, strictly and fully carries out the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) ASEAN and China signed in 2002, and soon completes the Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (COC) with China.

On this occasion, the Embassies of Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia organized a painting exhibition to introduce and strengthen promotion of the image of the countries and people of the ASEAN community./.
