Italy bridge collapse: No information on Vietnamese casualties

The Vietnamese Embassy in Italy has contacted local authorities grasp the situation, shortly after the collapse of the viaduct on the A10 highway on August 14th in Genoa city, the capital of Ligurian region, northwestern Italy, killing at least 35 people.

It is reported that no Vietnamese citizens were killed or injured in the calamity.

The office of Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said Mr. Conte arrived in Genoa on the evening of August 14th and stayed until August 15th to monitor the situation.

Meanwhile, Italian Defense Minister Elisabetta Trenta stressed that the army is ready to provide human resources and vehicles for rescue, while search efforts continue to find survivors in the wreckage.

At about 12pm (local time) on August 14th, a 200-meter stretch of the Morandi Bridge on the A10 highway collapsed and fell on a railroad track, a factory and many other houses from the height of about 100m.

Many vehicles were tumbled and buried in ruins along with the victims. The bridge was struck by lightning in a thunderstorm and then collapsed. The case also disrupted rail services in Genoa./.
