Mexico highly appreciates trade cooperation with Vietnam

Mr. Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal, Secretary of Economy of Mexico, received Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Hoai Duong, who had a courtesy greeting and exchange measures to promote trade and economic relations between Vietnam and Mexico, at the headquarters of Mexico’s Secretariat of Economy.

At the meeting, the Secretary highly appreciated the trade cooperation between Vietnam and Mexico in recent time, with trade exchange growth rate of 10-15% per year.

Vietnam has become the 8th largest trade partner of Mexico in the Asia - Pacific region, and Mexico is Vietnam’s 2nd largest partner in Latin America, with import and export revenue of nearly USD5 billion in 2017 and in first quarter of 2018, it reached nearly USD1 billion.

He also said that Vietnam had made important contributions in promoting to sign the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). He expressed his desire that Vietnam soon approve CPTPP so that the agreement will be effective in 2019, contributing to creating favourable environment to further promote the economic, trade and investment relations between the two countries as founding member of CPTPP.  

Ambassador Nguyen Hoai Duong conveyed the greetings of Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh to Secretary Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal and other leaders of Secretariat of Economy of Mexico, and congratulated Mexico on becoming the first country approving CPTPP.

On this occasion, the Ambassador appeciated the efforts of the Secretary and other leaders of Mexico’s Secretariat of Economy in promoting the trade, economic relations between the two countries, importantly contributing to Vietnam’s economic integration process.

Mr. Nguyen Hoai Duong hoped that the Secretary and other leaders of the Secretariat of Economy would continue to support the embassy in connecting businesses of the two countries, promoting the bilateral trade and economic relations and opening market for goods with high competitiveness of Vietnam.

In addition, the ambassador wanted Mexico to encourage its business to invest in Vietnam, a high potential market with more than 90 million consumers. It is also a gateway to ASEAN, creating premise for connecting ASEAN and Pacific Alliance including Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Chile./.
