More than 350 delegates attended conference connecting overseas Vietnamese with localities

A conference on connecting overseas Vietnamese with localities, co-organized by the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese and the Nghe An Provincial People’s Committee, was opened in Vinh city, Nghe An, on December 27th.

With the theme "Overseas Vietnamese work together to build the homeland for integration and development", the conference has the participation of more than 350 delegates, including leaders of central and local agencies and overseas businessmen from 23 countries and territories.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the conference, Deputy Head of the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese Luong Thanh Nghi emphasized that along with the process of development and international integration of the country, the overseas Vietnamese community continuously develops in both quantity and location of residents. They have become more stable, successful and tend to return to their origin, look for opportunities for cooperation, investment and business to contribute to build the homeland.

According to him, this is the first time a large-scale connection forum with the participation of hundreds of overseas Vietnamese and representatives of domestic sectors, department, localities and businesses organized in a central province.  This event shows the interest of the Party, State, Government and localities and the resources of overseas Vietnamese.

Vice Chairwoman of the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Le Ngoc Hoa said that at present, there are 13 projects of overseas Vietnamese businesses investing in the province with a total registered capital of about VND 6,000 billion and annual remittances transferred to the province is about USD500 million. Nghe An is also one of provinces with the largest number of overseas Vietnamese from the country, with about 75,000 people living, working and studying in many countries in the world.

At the conference, the delegates focused on discussing two themes: "Community solidarity towards the homeland" and "Overseas Vietnamese join hands to build the homeland for integration and development". Representatives of overseas Vietnamese from countries, as well as representatives of localities, gave presentations to exchange and give new ideas to consult the Party, State and localities in developing mechanisms, policies and measures to attract contributions of overseas Vietnamese to promote the socio-economic development of localities across the country.

In the morning of the same day, the delegation attending the conference offered flowers to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh in Vinh city./.
