Overseas Vietnamese in Macau meet in early new Spring

The Consulate General of Vietnam in Hong Kong and Macau (China) organized a meeting for overseas Vietnamese in Macau on March 4th.

Speaking at the meeting, Consul General of Vietnam in Hong Kong and Macau Tran Thanh Huan reported Vietnam’s socio-economic situation and great achievements in the fields of foreign affairs and international integration in 2017.

Over the past year, Vietnam overcame difficulties and challenges, maintaining political, defence and security sustainability and an economic growth rate of 6.81%, the highest rate in recent years. In 2017, challenges in international relations and natural calamities caused serious consequences, but Vietnam achieved and surpassed 13 big targets set by the Government.

Especially, Vietnam successfully organized the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017, which was an international event with the participation of all leaders of APEC member countries as well as a large number of reporters.

Mr. Huan reviewed the efforts of the overseas Vietnamese community over the past year. In Macau, there are over 20,000 Vietnamese workers. They are mainly women, working as domestic workers and serving at casinos with income of USD500-1,000 per month.

The overseas Vietnamese community in Macau is highly appreciated by local leaders for their working spirit and local legal execution. They are not only a friendship bridge, promoting the image of the country, culture and people of Vietnam, bringing Vietnam’s cuisine and fashion to international friends, but also always look towards the homeland.

On this occasion, he also presented certificates of merit to individuals who had made positive contributions to the development of the community.

Ms. Tran Thi Gon, Head of the Vietnam fellow-countrymen friendship associations in Macau, thanked the Consulate General of Vietnam in Hong Kong and Macau and local administration and social organizations for the association’s operations over the past time.

At the event, the overseas Vietnamese in Macau enjoyed an art program praising the Party and spring./.
