Overseas Vietnamese preserve tradition of visiting pagodas at beginning of Lunar New Year

On the first days of the Lunar New Year (Tet) of the Rat, Vietnamese people in Prague, the Czech Republic, still spend time to go to pagodas and pray for good things in the year.

According to the tradition of Vietnamese people, pagoda is a peaceful and pure place. Therefore, in the early morning of the first day of the Lunar New Year, many Vietnamese people in Prague chose Vinh Nghiem pagoda as a place for the first visit at the beginning of the year with their family and friends.

Ms. Ho Thanh Phuong, who welcomed more than ten Tet there, shared that in the morning of the first day of the Lunar New Year every year, she burns incense to invite her ancestors to enjoy the fortune in the early spring, then goes to pagoda to pray for peace for the family and everyone.

In the cold of about Zero temperature in the morning of the first day of the Lunar New Year of the Rat, many Vietnamese people still wear traditional long dress to go to pagodas. They always look to their origins, the beauty of traditional culture and look forward to conveying the message of preserving the national culture for following generations.

“Today is the first day of the traditional Lunar New Year, I go to the pagoda to offer incense to commemorate the ancestors and pray for every family to stay healthy and prosperous, and also to preserve and convey the national culture to future children and grandchildren," shared Vu Hong Thu, an overseas Vietnamese in the Czech Republic.

Venerable Thich Nhat Tri in the Czech Republic said that this year Vinh Nghiem pagoda welcomed a large number of Buddhists and overseas Vietnamese and the pagoda also organized activities closer to the overseas Vietnamese, then conveying compassionate message to everyone.

On this occasion, other pagodas in the Czech Republic also organize ceremonies to pray for peace at the beginning of the year, this is a traditional cultural feature of Vietnamese people to pray for a lucky and peaceful new year./.
