SCOV presents face masks to Vietnamese community in UK

The Vietnamese Embassy in the UK on June 18th gave 10,000 antibacterial face masks, presented by the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese (SCOV), to the Vietnamese community in the UK to prevent the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Tran Ngoc An shared difficulties and serious impacts caused by COVID-19 for the UK in general and the Vietnamese community in particular.

The ambassador affirmed that the presentation of face masks shows the attention and desire of helping the overseas Vietnamese to prevent and minimize the danger of being infected with the COVID-19.

The Vietnamese community in the UK is quite large but they live and work scattered across regions and cities far from each other, so the embassy will continue to make efforts to support and connect them to further unite and cohere to overcome difficulties, he said.

In addition, Ambassador An also shared experiences, which have helped Vietnam successfully control the COVID-19 pandemic.

Not only minimizing bad impacts of the pandemic on community health, Vietnam also minimizes its impacts on the economy, with forecasted growth rate of 4.8%, while many big economies will be seriously depressed.

Mr. Ho Vu Phong Truong, a representative of the Vietnamese community in Birmingham city, thanked the government and related agencies of Vietnam, and committed to deliver face masks to Vietnamese people in the region.

He also expressed his support for measures fighting COVID-19 pandemic Vietnam has carried out and desired the pandemic will be soon curbed completely so that overseas Vietnamese can continue to return to the homeland to visit their relatives, travel and invest.

The UK is one of the nations facing the burden of serious consequences to community health and economy caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As of June 18th, the UK has 300,469 COVID-19 infections, of whom 42,288 died./.
