The Association of Cambodians of Vietnamese Origin in Koh Kong province on February 3rd presented gifts to more than 100 poor Vietnamese people in the province on the occasion of the Lunar New Year Festival (Tet) is coming.

The gifts are the association’s efforts to bring joy for the poor during the Tet festival.

Since its establishment, the association has provided assistance for overseas Vietnamese and encouraged them to abide by the local country’s laws and contribute to its socio-economic development.

It has also called on donors to raise funds for charitable activities, including providing free health check-ups and treatment for poor Vietnamese and Cambodian people.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, chairman of the association, said that the association is planning to build a school to teach Vietnamese language and a house for community activities for Vietnamese people in Cambodia to meet each other and organize cultural activities and beliefs. He desired to be supported financially from agencies, organizations and individuals in Vietnam to implement the plans.

Koh Kong province is considered as one of the most hardest geographical conditions in Cambodia. It now has over 1,000 Vietnamese Cambodians. Most of them earn their living on fishing and handicraft with low income./.
