With the participation of 78 trainees (including six males) from 12 nations and territories, including Taiwan (China), Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, France, Hungary, Poland, Japan, Italy, Switzerland and Ukraine, the course aims to improve pedagogical skills for overseas Vietnamese teachers who are teaching Vietnamese language to overseas Vietnamese communities, and create conditions for them to visit Vietnam's landscapes, historical and cultural relics in order to introduce and promote the country, people, cultural identity and national traditions.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vu Hong Nam, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the SCOV, emphasized that the cultural identity and national tradition, especially the mother tongue, are the power, the intangible asset of each country and each community. He recalled the words of President Ho Chi Minh: "Voice is a long, precious treasure of the nation. We have to preserve it, treasure it and make it more and more popular."

The Deputy Minister affirmed that in recent years, SCOV has always attached great importance to building, consolidating and developing the Vietnamese language learning movement among the overseas Vietnamese community. It is also an important task in supporting the community to preserve the traditional national cultural identity, while contributing to the dissemination of Vietnamese language and culture abroad.

Mr. Hong Nam thanked the Ministry of Education and Training, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-Hanoi), agencies and organizations for coordinating and supporting SCOV to organize the training course. He believed that the trainees would be able to achieve the desired results to contribute to the movement of Vietnamese teaching and learning in their localities.

Running until August 27th in Hanoi, the trainees will have 13 sessions at the SCOV headquarters; two sessions of attending a class at the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-Hanoi) and Nguyen Binh Khiem Elementary School; and an exchange about skills on exploitation and preservation of books and materials organized by the Library Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

In addition, they will visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the Presidential Palace, and the Temple of Literature. On weekends, they will travel to Ninh Binh province and Ha Long bay in Quang Ninh province.

"Vietnamese is the concern of many parents and also the bridge to connect overseas Vietnamese. It is a very difficult task to maintain the Vietnamese language abroad, the teachers will have to make great efforts, but the Vietnamese language is still a joy and endless inspiration in the hearts of Vietnamese people," said Assoc. Prof., Dr. Nguyen Thien Nam, Head of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language./.
