According to the Operation Regulations of the Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Marseille, Mr. Nguyen Cong Tuoi Maurice Germain is responsible for promoting economic and trade relations between the two countries; protecting the interests of the State, the legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese citizens and legal entities in Marseille. The Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Marseille exercises his competence within the whole province of Bouches-du-Rhône. He becomes the 71st Consul in Marseille.

Vietnam's appointment of Honorary Consul in Marseille shows the important position of France’s Marseille for Vietnam.

Marseille is the second largest city and the largest seaport of France, as well as in the Mediterranean Sea. For Vietnam, Marseille is the place where President Ho Chi Minh came in 1911, beginning his journey to find a way to save the country.

For a century, Marseille was also the first place of arrival in France of more than 200,000 Vietnamese people, especially during the two world wars. So far, Marseille has the second largest number of Vietnamese people in France, after Paris. Moreover, with its economic strengths, Marseille has great potential for cooperation with Vietnam's major cities.

In its current competence, the Vietnamese Embassy in France is managing four Honorary Consuls in the areas of Nouvelle Calédonie, Monaco, Andorra and Marseille./.
