Vietnam Buddhist Sangha presents over 100 tonnes of rice to Mozambique

Over 100 tonnes of rice was recently presented to Mozambique by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Central Committee in Maputo to support people affected by tropical storms of Idai and Kenneth in the country’s central region.

Present at the handover ceremony were General Director Augusta Maita of the National Disaster Management Institute (INGC) of Mozambique, and Venerable Thich Dong Hue, member of the Executive Council of the VBS Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Buddhist Association in Mozambique, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Le Huy Hoang.

At the event, Venerable Thich Dong Hue, member of the Executive Council of the VBS Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Buddhist Association in Mozambique, said that he expected 100 tonnes of Vietnam’s high-quality rice will help the Mozambican victims overcome their difficulties.

On this occasion, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Le Huy Hoang underlined the support of the government and people of Vietnam for Mozambique, and added that he hoped those affected by the natural disasters would soon recover and return to normal life.

General Director of the National Disaster Management Institute (INGC) of Mozambique August Maita expressed her high appreciation and gratitude for the VBS, the government and Buddhist followers of Vietnam.

According to the General Director of INGC, natural disasters caused losses of 714 Mozambican people in the rainy season of 2018 - 2019, 648 of whom were killed by tropical cyclones of Idai and Kenneth in March and April.

Previously on November 25th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and INGC of Mozambique held a meeting with the Diplomatic Corps to call on the international community to continue to join hands to support disaster prevention and control in Mozambique./.
