Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument inaugurated in Mondulkiri province

An inauguration ceremony of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument was held by the Solidarity Front for Development of the Cambodian Motherland and the administration of Mondulkiri province in the centre of Sen Monorom city, Mondulkiri province, Cambodia, on January 1st.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nhem Valy - Standing Vice President and Secretary General of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for Development of the Cambodian Motherland, and Mr. Svay Som Ieng, Head of Mondulkiri province, emphasized that the people of Cambodia cannot forget the support and assistance of Vietnam and Vietnamese volunteers in overthrowing the Pol Pot genocidal regime, bringing back revival and development for Cambodia; If there was no victory on January 7th, 1979, there will be no Cambodia today. The Friendship Monument was inaugurated on the occasion of the Cambodian army and people having many practical meaningful activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Pol Pot regime's overthrow (January 7th, 1979).

Colonel Nguyen Anh Dung, Head of the Vietnamese Defence Attache Office in Cambodia, appreciated the great significance of the good cooperation between the militaries and peoples of the two countries and thanked the leaders of all levels and local people for their support during the process of building the Friendship Monument.

The Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monument in Mondulkiri province has a height of 16m, with an image of Vietnamese and Cambodian soldiers holding guns to protect a mother and her child. The monument is built in an area of over 3,500 square meters. This is a place to visit and organize cultural and historical education activities for young people in Mondulkiri province.

Located in northeastern Cambodia, Mondulkiri province has cooperated closely with Vietnam’s Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Binh Phuoc provinces in protecting security, building a border for peace, friendship, good cooperation and development. In particular, over the past time, the province has actively coordinated with the Vietnamese side to search, retrieve and repatriate more than 650 sets of remains of martyrs sacrificed in the war period.

Up to now, 13 friendship monuments have been upgraded and built among the projects of 17 Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monuments in the country./.
