Vietnam Days first held in Myanmar

The opening ceremony of first ever Vietnam Days in Myanmar was organized on the afternoon of May 7th under the chair by the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar Luan Thuy Duong said that Vietnam Days in Myanmar was organized to mark the 43rd anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam - Myanmar diplomatic relations (May 28th) and implementing the spirit of the framework of the Vietnam -Myanmar Comprehensive Cooperation and Vietnam - Myanmar Cultural Cooperation Program 2017-2020, signed by leaders in August 2017, and the Vietnam - Myanmar Joint Statement issued on the occasion of the visit to Vietnam by Myanmar’s State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi this April.

She said that the event would last until May 10th with various important activities, including tourism fair, photo exhibition, handicraft product exhibition, folk art performance and fashion show.

In addition, there was a conference to connect businesses in the field of tourism and handicraft with the participation of 25 travel agents and representatives of trade villages of the two countries.

The ambassador hoped that the event would contribute to further promoting the cultural and tourism cooperation and people exchange between the two sides.

At the event, Minister of Hotels and Tourism of Myanmar U Ohn Maung affirmed that Vietnam Days in Myanmar was not only an opportunity to introduce the potential of natural resources and cultural features of Vietnam, but also had great significance in making people from the two countries closer and to promote the friendship, mutual understanding and cooperation.

He said that Vietnam and Myanmar have positive tourism cooperation. More and more people of Myanmar travel to Vietnam; the number of tourists has increased by about 40% per year over the past years.

Mr. U Ohn Maung also added that in order to promote the cooperation, it is necessary to establish a joint working group on tourism cooperation between Myanmar’s Ministry of Hotels and Tourism and Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and have more activities to strengthen promotion and investment in tourism and measures to create favourable conditions for tourism cooperation between the two countries.

During the opening ceremony, more than 30 Vietnamese artists put on special performances such as Quan ho singing and traditional national musical accessories such as flute and two-string Chinese violin.

In addition, designer Vinh Thuy introduced a collection of hand-made traditional long dresses “Flowers on silk”.

At the event, the delegates also saw handicraft products such as silk, sculpture, wood and jewelry products displayed by trade villages of Vietnam and Myanmar, as well as had opportunity to learn about tourism services to promote cooperation between the two sides.    

A program connecting businesses operating in the fields of tourism and handicraft was organized, with the participation of 25 companies of the two sides.

On the morning of May 8th, a photo exhibition “Discovering Vietnam”, held by the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar and Ministry of Information and Communications, displayed more than 100 photos, which would give visitors an overview of the country and people of Vietnam./.
