Vietnam Summer Camp 2016 offers various significant activities

The Vietnam Summer Camp 2016, with the theme “Overseas Vietnamese youth with national cultural heritages”, will take place from July 10th - 23rd in localities of Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Nghe An, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Da Nang.

The information was released by the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 6th.

The Camp will create favourable conditions for 110 overseas Vietnamese youths from 26 nations and territories with excellent study achievements to visit and learn about cultural heritages and historical monuments of the country. Moreover, through activities of gratitude and commemoration in the program, the overseas Vietnamese youths will be educated in patriotic tradition, profound gratitude to generations of their forefathers who sacrificed their lives for the national independence, national unity, sovereignty protection and territorial integrity, thereby improving their pride in the country and toward their homeland and origin.

Specifically, they will be involved in activities such as: visiting President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, visiting the grave of General Vo Nguyen Giap, offering incense to commemorate heroic martyrs at Road 9 National Martyrs' Cemetery; visiting the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, Presidential Palace Historical Site, Kim Lien historical site (hometown of Uncle Ho), and Quang Tri ancient citadel.

The participants will also visit cultural heritages and historical sites such as: Temple of Literature in Hanoi, Ha Long bay in Quang Ninh province, Hue ancient capital in Thua Thien-Hue province, My Son Sanctuary and Monument of Heroic Vietnamese Mother Nguyen Thi Thu in Quang Nam province and Linh Ung pagoda in Da Nang city.

Besides, the participants will attend workshops and exchange with students from the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam with the themes: Roles of culture in social life in the context of globalization; preservation and conservation of culture among overseas Vietnamese community; significance of recognition of Vietnam’s intangible and tangible cultural heritages as a world cultural heritage; and protection of cultural heritage in Vietnam.

In addition, the overseas Vietnamese youths will participate in charitable and social activities like visiting and presenting gifts to Heroic Vietnamese Mothers in Thua Thien-Hue province, building bookcases for a centre sponsoring street children, and planting casuarina trees to improve the marine environment in Da Nang city.

This is an annual program held by the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese for overseas Vietnamese young people living and studying in 109 nations and territories. It has been a great event, attracting the participation of a large number of overseas Vietnamese youths around the world./.
