Vietnam - Turkey strive to reach trade turnover of USD4 billion by 2020

Vietnamese Ambassador to Turkey Tran Quang Tuyen presented the letter of credence from President Nguyen Phu Trong to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the capital Ankara.

During the informal meeting after the ceremony of presenting the letter of credence, President Recep Erdogan welcomed Ambassador Tran Quang Tuyen to receive the mission in Turkey and wished him to fulfill his mission.

The President said that Turkey and Vietnam have many similarities, especially in terms of scale of population. The two countries have great potential to further promote cooperation in many fields, especially in economics and trade. He expressed his desire to promote the negotiation of a bilateral free trade agreement as well as strengthen cooperation in the fields of defense, healthcare and tourism.

Ambassador Tuyen thanked President Erdogan and conveyed the cordial greetings of President Nguyen Phu Trong to him.

He affirmed that the relationship between the two countries is developing very well, especially in recent times with consecutive high-level visits. The Turkish Prime Minister paid an official visit to Vietnam in August 2017 and Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan paid an official visit to Turkey in October 2018. The Ambassador expected Mr. Erdogan to pay an official visit to Vietnam in the near future.

The Vietnamese offical also hoped that the two sides would strive to boost the trade turnover to achieve the target of USD4 billion by 2020 as the leaders of the two countries proposed in 2017, and strengthen cultural exchanges between the two countries to improve mutual understanding between the two peoples.

The two sides have direct flights Istanbul - Ho Chi Minh city - Hanoi of Turkish airline, and it is hoped that direct flights Istanbul - Ho Chi Minh city and Istanbul - Hanoi with more frequent flights will be soon opened, helping to further promote development of economics, trade, tourism and people exchange.

On the following day, Ambassador Tuyen, his spouse, staff and families of officials and staff of the Embassy visited the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the first President of the Republic of Turkey. He placed a memorial wreath at the late President's mausoleum, wrote and signed in a memorial gold book and visited the War Museum in the precinct of the Mausoleum./.
