Vietnamese Ambassador participates in important ASEAN meeting in Islamabad

The ASEAN Committee in Islamabad, Pakistan, (ACI) on February 20th met to discuss and ratify ACI's action plan in the coming period, and implemented a series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN establishment.

At the meeting, ACI agreed to ratify a number of activities to mark the 50th birthday of ASEAN. At the same time, the chief representatives of ASEAN countries in Islamabad updated and shared domestic situations, and main features in foreign policies of their countries with the region as well as the globe. The Ambassador of the Philippines, which serves as ASEAN chairman for 2017, reported a number of priorities of the ASEAN Chairmanship year of the Philippines at the meeting.

For its part, Vietnamese Ambassador to Pakistan Nguyen Xuan Luu reported a number of key features of the bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Pakistan, especially that economic and trade fields have prospered; reported the recent working visit by Ambassador Pham Sanh Chau, assistant of the Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Special Envoy of the Prime Minister for UNESCO, with leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and some departments of Pakistan.

The Vietnamese Ambassador shared with the ASEAN chief representatives in Islamabad that the Pakistani government had appreciated Vietnam’s dynamic, activeness, especially in the fields of culture, preservation of heritages recognized by UNESCO and the positive results of cultural diplomacy that Pakistan wants to reference.

At the meeting, a farewell party for the foreign secretary of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Aziz Chaudhry, was held before he receives the mission of being Pakistani Ambassador to the US./.
