Vietnamese buddhists in RoK look to homeland’s sea and islands

A large number of Vietnamese buddhists in the Republic of Korea (RoK) attended a festival with flower garlands and colored lanterns to pray for peace for the sea, islands and the country of Vietnam in Seoul on December 18th.

The event was organized by the Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam and the Vietnamese Buddhist Association in the RoK.

Speaking at the ceremony, Buddhist nun Thich Nu Gioi Tanh, member of the International Buddhist Board of the Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam Central Committee, highlighted the significance and importance of Buddhists towards the homeland and origin of the nation, and memorialised the merit of those who sacrificed to bring peace to the nation.

She desired Buddhists in the RoK to always unite and help each other overcome difficulties in life, join hands to strive for peace, contributing to the development of the country, nation and religion.

On this occasion, she also thanked the administration and local Buddhist authorities for having created good conditions for Vietnamese Buddhists for living and holding the ceremony favourably with the Buddhist motto of being common home of Buddhists worldwide.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thuong, First Secretary of the Vietnamese Embassy in the RoK, appreciated Vietnamese Buddhists and the Overseas Vietnamese community in the RoK having practical activities towards the homeland, especially social and charitable activities.

He reiterated Vietnam’s consistent policy, which considers the overseas Vietnamese community as an integral part of the nation, and called on Buddhists to continue to promote Dhamma motto to accompany the nation.

Bonze Suk In-chul said that Phung Nguyen Pagoda is honored to support the Vietnamese Buddhist Association in the RoK to organize the ceremony.

It is scheduled that next summer Phung Nguyen Pagoda will continue to coordinate with the Vietnamese Buddhist Association in the RoK to organize Lotus Festival and it is hoped that through these activities, the coordination and interaction between Buddhism and Buddhists of the two countries are growing. 

In a solemn atmosphere, the participants conducted prayers for peace for the country, for the homeland’s sea and islands. They also spent a minute of silence to commemorate people and soldiers who sacrificed themselves to protect the peace, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation of Vietnam./.
