Vietnamese business helps create jobs Laos' remote area

An inauguration ceremony of a plant processing canna rhizomes named Namxiem Dong Rieng plant was recently held in Namxiem village, Phaxay district, Xiengkhuang province, Laos, by the Minerals and Metallurgical One Member Limited Company under the Company Of Economic Cooperation (COECCO) of Vietnam.

The USD1 million - plant is located on an area of 20,000 square meters and is one of the key works of COECCO in Namxiem village, Phaxay district, Xiengkhuang province.

With a capacity of 6,000 tons per year, it is expected to create new development in modern agriculture for the locality, creating jobs and stable income for people in the project area.

After more than two years, up to now, 100 households in Namxiem village have been involved in production of raw materials for the plant. With a total area of ​​62ha and a yield of 50 tons/ha, each household will have an average income of about LAK15 million/year.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Head of Namxiem village, Mr. Giang Nhia Lau, said that while being established in 2005 in a fertile area, the local people still maintained their traditional production methods, therefore, their incomes were still very low.

Since the end of 2016, the project has helped people in Namxiem village and some families in Namxia village have stable jobs and income./.
